Volunteer for the Fox Island Lighthouse Association

Why volunteer? All our volunteers share a love of South Fox Island and respect for preserving history. Some show that love through historical research or “off-island” activities. Others get their hands dirty “on-island.” Some support us financially so we can do the work.

Given the beauty and history of South Fox Island, many potential volunteers inquire about on-island projects. These are not for everyone. Because we are safety conscious, trips may be cancelled or delayed because of weather. Trips can be long and rough. There is no dock. The transfer between boat to dinghy requires a degree of agility and “boat smarts.” The work can be tough. Housing conditions are fairly rustic. That said, volunteering on the island may be one of the most rewarding and engaging experiences you’ll ever have.

Volunteers can also choose to remain on the mainland. Our Board of Directors is supported by our cadre of volunteers committed to marketing, communications, project planning, grant writing, fundraising, research, education, and outreach. “Off season” projects have included restoring windows and doors that need equipment not available “on island”, recreating missing wood and metal features, procuring materials for island projects, and more.

We are an all-volunteer non-profit that is self-funded. If you would like to make a donation, please click here.
