2016 Restoration Activities
- Restored and installed remaining 1867 Lighthouse window sashes
- Prepped, painted and caulked 1867 Lighthouse window frames
- Discovered three pairs of the original 1867 Lighthouse shutters in the Assistant Keeper’s attic
- Documented Assistant Keepers missing portico support
- The National Park Service delivered wood for the 1867 “lean to” interior and more period brick for future projects
- Installed new winter covers made in the style of a shutter, to reduce handling weight. They are installed on a small lift-off hinge, sacrificing a one-time installation as an alternative to causing repeated nail or screw damage to the historic window frames.
- Glazed and painted Workshop windows; touched up exterior paint
- Touched up Boathouse exterior paint due to exposure
- Added two standard steel doors to the rear of the “lean to”, replacing temporary plywood covers. The original doors have been salvaged and stored in the Lighthouse basement but will require extensive restoration before re-use can be considered
- Adjusted rear Boathouse door to fit properly and installed in place by Eric Maki
- Removed five window sashes from the Assistant Keepers Quarters for restoration over the winter
